SCHOOL LUNCH
SCHOOL LUNCH is a visual essay of contemporary student life in real educational settings. Current cross-cultural issues and their emotional attitudes are explored in the shared experience of school lunch. SCHOOL LUNCH is generated from direct observation, drawing on-site, in lunchrooms and campuses of High Schools and Colleges. Each individual in my paintings, drawn in the moment, in an actual person.
My goal is to create humanistic awareness in a framework that is universally recognized.
SCHOOL LUNCH underlines perceptions which affirm cultural identity, brings together ideas espousing contemporary social, gender and political concerns while encouraging a belief in the quality of human spirit.
A MAN/A WOMAN
I use the vocabulary of daily life and historical reference to inform the content of the MAN/WOMAN series, melding classical figuration with contemporary content. These visual arrangements include variations of the conventions of modernism’s pictorial language – scale, surface and space.
The images in the MAN/WOMAN series investigate the interactions of personal relationships within a time frame. This series, in creating awareness of the multi-faceted roles of women, recognizes and views the importance of relationship cycles.
In these paintings, balanced real and abstracted elements coexist, to create images which allude to the myths of womanhood. The paintings in the MAN/WOMAN series, distinguished by evocative motifs, are activated by current issues and concerns of women, which challenge the uneasy boundaries of possession, substance, perception and hallucination.

Weinblatt has exhibited SCHOOL LUNCH & A MAN/A WOMAN series in over 40 solo and more than 100 group exhibitions in museums, art centers, colleges & universities, library and gallery venues.
Claire Davis, Asst. Curator of Modern & Contemporary Art, MOMA, NYC:
"I really like Weinblatt's painting, a tableau, very much (SL4 "The Boys"). The play of hands expresses different emotions, narrative and mystery."
Stephanie Habboush Plunkett, Chief Curator and Deputy Director of the Norman Rockwell Museum:
” Weinblatt’s ability to transform specific experiences into powerful images which communicate to a broad audience is nothing short of extraordinary…remarkable paintings that address such important issues as cultural diversity and the challenges inherent in interpersonal experiences.”
Dennis Wepman, Curator, Karpeles Museum, Newburgh, NY:
” Weinblatt incorporates a dynamic narrative in her paintings, implicit of the energy and tension of real-life encounters.”
